Jamaican born hip-hop artist and long time industry scenester Avalanche  made YouTube and Canadian hip-hop music history upon his involvement in a contest ochestrated by  the collaboration of critically acclaimed hip-hop label G-Unit, and YouTube – The “ On The Rise” rap contest. The inaugural contest was open to YouTube account users and rappers and was a submission vault for independently directed videos with original production and original lyrics. Millions of entries were made world wide, but only a few  manifested themselves into the ‘Final 20’ – a final 20 that includes Canada’s own, King Avalanche.

The independently shot video for “Break Away”, directed by fellow Torontonian Ant Horasanli, depicts the life and struggle of a man caught within a life of opposing energies. The opening scene, with his real life mother (actress Marcia Brown), gives viewers a taste of the underlying theme which has Avalanche holding strong to the teachings instilled in him as youth while dealing with the ongoing struggle of the ever-present temptation and anguish that exists around him. Images of children skipping in the community with gas masks give this raw and edgy video the substance necessary to provoke thought and make viewers really pay attention. It’s no surprise why Avalanche caught the attention of YouTube and G-Unit executives, a panel that included 50-Cent himself.

King Avalanche is no stranger to the hip-hop scene in Canada. Mainstream attention came with the success of the hit single “Eye Candy” that ripped through Canadian airwaves back in 2006. However, King Avalanche and his memorable raspy delivery had been scorching radio continuously with his creative delivery and very meaningful lyrics.  He’s focused now on solidifying his place within the country and abroad working on countless projects and utilizing any and every oppurtunity.

Following the release of the video for his most recent single “Watchin Me”, King Avalanche has proven to have reached new heights in his career. The video and song has been recieved with much acclaim within Canada and overseas. Now armed with brand new projects ready for release , King Avalanche is positioning himself to make some considerable noise in the music industry.
